A team of six electricians from South Yorkshire worked round the clock to squeeze five weeks of work into 12 days so that Leeds Bradford Airport's prestigious Premier Lounge was ready on time for an official opening by the Lord Mayor of Leeds.
The five qualified electricians and one trainee from Priera Electrical Services Ltd were given the task of completing a full electrical refit that included lighting, power and audio visual services. Leeds Bradford Airport's management team wanted the Lounge closed for as short a period as possible so as not to disrupt customers. With only 12 days to complete the job, the Priera team had to work hand in glove with the main contractor, decorators and mechanical engineers. One of the team, Elizabeth Leigh (22) from Penistone was doubly delighted at completing the job on time as it was her birthday the day after the lounge was handed back to the Airport for the big opening and use by passengers."We worked right round the clock in two teams doing 12 hours shifts. The timescale added to the pressure and working around other teams was a challenge that we all rose to in order to complete. It was a tough call but we understood the customer's need to get the Lounge open on time – which we did. I really didn't fancy a 12 hour shift on my birthday so I was especially glad to see the Lord Mayor officially open the Lounge," said Elizabeth Leigh. Priera is based just north of Sheffield, from where it services several well known brand names, including a number of airports, with electrical installation and compliance services. MD of Priera, Gary Duce says the contract was one of the toughest the company has taken on in terms of working to tight deadlines. "We knew we only had 12 days to complete the work but when we looked at what was needed, we realised it was an even bigger challenge. Both the night and day teams worked extremely hard to finish it on time. It's not something we would want to do every week, but we are extremely pleased with the result, as is the customer," said Gary Duce. The newly fitted Premier Lounge offers the Airport's customers a first-class experience in ultra-modern style and luxurious settings. It is the perfect place to relax before a flight or conduct some last minute business before departure. The Lounge is open to any passenger from any airline in any class of travel. Leeds Bradford Airport believes the Lounge is unique in offering four distinct Zones for business, relaxation, refreshment and a self-contained meeting room. Open from 05:00hrs to 20:00hrs and is fully accessible to disabled travellers and wheelchair users. Children aged over 12 are also welcome to use the facility. The Lounge can cater for up to 100 people at a time and can be pre-booked for meetings of up to 20 business delegates.
